painting:
I use stitch alongside oils; the thread becomes flexible, fluid and linear. Taut stitches change pace, weaving to become the cloth. The presence of thread on one side on the canvas is the absence of stitch on the other, producing incomplete and encrusted fragments which work between surfaces.
stitched:
By using tangled and irregular threads to draw, I subvert idealised spaces. Modern spaces operate as something fragile and ephemeral, referencing architecture, but not exacting it. These spaces decay at their edges, referring to both the drawn study and our peripheral vision, able to sense the presence of something just beyond focus.
drawing:
All untitled, pencil on paper
ceramic:
Ceramics is a relatively new medium to me, I work predominantly in Stoneware producing slab made pieces with relief or scrafitto surface decoration. I teach elementary ceramics to children.
